5 Things to Do After Saying Yes to Your Wedding Dress

You’ve found your wedding dress (hopefully here at Bridal Indulgence!) and officially said yes to the dress, but what should you do next?

Although it’s an incredibly exciting moment, it’s surprisingly common for brides to experience wedding dress doubts or wonder whether they should have continued looking. It’s something we often see once the excitement of the appointment has settled, particularly when brides are still surrounded by wedding dress inspiration online. With an endless stream of beautiful gowns appearing online, even the most certain bride can find herself questioning her decision.

From clearing your camera roll to booking your bridal accessories appointment, here are five things to do after buying your wedding dress so you can avoid wedding dress regret and enjoy the rest of your wedding planning.

1. Delete Your Wedding Dress Shopping Photos

During your bridal appointments, you may have collected a camera roll full of photographs of different wedding dresses. Once you’ve made your decision, delete them, or at least move them into a hidden folder.

Photographs taken quickly in a fitting room rarely capture how a dress truly looked or felt. The lighting may be different, the dress may not have been your exact size, and a quick photo can never fully capture how you felt wearing it. Keeping them makes it far too tempting to compare every little detail when the most important thing is how you felt in the wedding dress you chose.

You don’t need to revisit the dresses that weren’t quite right. They all helped lead you to the one that was.

2. Reset Your Instagram Wedding Dress Algorithm

If you’ve spent months saving gowns, following designers and watching bridal styling videos, your Instagram Explore page is probably filled with wedding dresses.

Go into your Instagram content preferences or algorithm settings and remove “wedding dresses” and similar topics from your suggested content. You could also start searching for inspiration for other parts of your wedding, such as flowers, stationery, hairstyles or your honeymoon, to gently retrain your feed.

Your chosen dress doesn’t become any less perfect just because Instagram shows you another beautiful one.

3. Stop Following Wedding Dress Designers and Boutiques

Once your wedding dress has been ordered, give yourself permission to stop shopping.

Unfollow, or temporarily mute, the bridal designers, wedding dress boutiques and bridal accounts you followed during your search. This doesn’t mean you no longer love their content; it simply removes the temptation to keep looking when you’ve already made your decision.

This is also a good time to shift your attention towards what comes next, such as finding out when your dress is expected to arrive, thinking ahead to alterations and starting to consider your bridal accessories.

There will always be more dresses and new bridal collections, just as there will always be more beautiful venues, flowers and engagement rings. At some point, you have to trust the choice you made.

4. Remind Yourself Why You Chose Your Wedding Dress

After your appointment, make a note of everything you loved about your dress and how you felt while wearing it.

Perhaps it made you feel completely yourself. Maybe you loved the way it moved, how comfortable and confident you felt or the reaction from the people who came with you. You might simply have found that every other dress disappeared from your mind as soon as you put it on.

If wedding dress doubts ever begin to creep in, revisit those words. They’ll be a much better reminder than a fitting-room photograph of why your dress was the one.

Remember that your wedding dress doesn’t have to be the only beautiful dress in the world. It simply has to be the one that feels right for you.

5. Book Your Bridal Accessories Appointment

Once you’ve found your wedding dress, you can start thinking about the beautiful finishing touches that will complete your bridal look.

At Bridal Indulgence, we have a carefully selected collection of bridal capes, veils and wedding dress accessories chosen to complement our gowns. During a bridal accessories appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to try different options with your wedding dress and see your complete bridal look come together.

It’s often the moment our brides fall in love with their dress all over again. We also find that adding a veil, cape or other finishing detail can help you see your dress in a completely new way and bring the whole look together.

If you’re still thinking about the shape and style of your gown, our wedding dress silhouette guide also explains how different styles work and feel when worn.

Once you’ve said yes to your dress, the best thing you can do is stop searching, trust your decision and look forward to wearing it.
