Are Wedding Dresses True To Size?
When it comes to embarking on the journey to find your dream wedding dress, there are many more important aspects of the bridal experience that you should be considering and enjoying - rather than being concerned over what size the gown is. In fact, that should be completely irrelevant. And, if you’re asking the question: are wedding dresses true to size? The short answer is no, no they’re not.
The long answer, with regards to that question, is - unsurprisingly - more complicated (and proves that, in a nutshell, the sizing of your wedding dress really doesn’t matter) but we’ll explain more about that later on. What actually matters when it comes to your wedding dress experience, particularly at our Surrey bridal boutique, is not only finding a wedding dress that completely steals your heart in terms of style and silhouette, but the memories made during this process with your friends and family. At Bridal Indulgence we aim to infuse your bridal experience with warmth, joy and our signature personalised approach. We’re here to help you find the bridal gown that makes your heart soar, that you feel completely comfortable and confident in, regardless of what size the label says.
Are wedding dresses true to size?
Wedding dress shopping is a completely different ball game to that you experience on the high street. From the appointment itself, to the personalised service you experience, to the sizing. Not only do wedding dress sizes vary from that seen on the high street, it can vary from designer to designer, and even from dress to dress depending on how they’re constructed, their silhouette etc. For example, even the smallest of details can affect how a gown fits. From how the dress is shaped, to the fabric it’s crafted from and even the way the material is cut. All of these examples are a reminder as to why you really don’t need to worry about what size the label says, the dress fitting you is much more important.
Will your samples fit me?
At our beautiful Hampshire bridal boutique most of our wedding dress samples are in one size only (with a select few in two sizes). But, don’t panic! We have a number of tricks (we like to think of it as a bit of bridal wizardry) to help provide you with an idea of how the dress will look when it’s in your size.
How will I know what size to order?
In order to ascertain which is the best size to order your dream wedding dress in, here at Bridal Indulgence we use a tried and tested combination of measurements and by eye to arrive at that all-important final decision. We are always led by the largest measurement to ensure the dress will fit you. And, even then, it’s worth keeping in mind that when your dress arrives back from the designer in your chosen size, it will most likely require alterations to create that perfect fit. And, really that’s the beauty of it, size becomes completely irrelevant.
Will we chat about dress sizes during the appointment?
At Bridal Indulgence, as part of our signature wedding dress experience your appointment is completely private - so you have the entire boutique to yourself. We don’t tend to discuss the sizing of the gowns whilst you’re trying our exclusive collection of heart-stopping wedding dresses during your appointment unless you specifically ask. The only time we would chat about size is when you’ve found ‘the one’ and we’re working out which is the best size to order! But, again, as there’s so many varying factors that affect how a wedding dress fits, it’s important to remind yourself that whatever the number on the label, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is you feel like a million dollars in the gown of your choice.
At our Farnham bridal boutique, our sample dresses range from a UK 8-22. You can also discover our enchanting Curve Edit.
And, if you’d like to discuss dress sizes further prior to your bridal appointment, please feel free to reach out.
