If you love the idea of a bridal sample sale, good news, bride-to-be. We’ve just compiled the ultimate list of top tips for shopping at a bridal sample sale.
But first, what is a bridal sample sale? A bridal boutique will often hold a sample sale when they’re looking to move older sample dresses (these may have been discontinued and are from a prior collection, or the studio is looking to make room for fresh styles on their rails). With the gowns sold as is (you’ll probably need to invest in some alterations, FYI), a bridal sample sale can play host to some serious bridal treasures - all available at a fraction of the original price!

These events are perfect for the bride who’s working to a budget, a tight timeline or simply loves a bargain. At a fraction of the price, you can discover some incredible pieces awaiting you on a sample sale’s rails (especially so at our Surrey bridal boutique)! And, if time’s ticking away and the big day is drawing near, a sample gown is a great option if you haven’t got the time to wait for a dress to be made and shipped. Simply fall in love and take it to a seamstress!
No.2 How to shop a sample sale
Keep in mind that when it comes to shopping at a sample sale, it isn’t the time for trying to figure out what you do and don’t like style-wise. The best plan of action to approach a sample sale is to have previously tried on a selection of wedding dresses before your sample sale appointment, to know, pretty much from the neckline to silhouette, what your dream wedding dress could look like. In a nutshell, the best advice we’d offer at Bridal Indulgence is to arrive at a sample sale with a very clear idea of what you’re looking for and be ready to buy (both emotionally and financially).
No.3 The magic of alterations
At a Bridal Indulgence sample sale, we take very good care of our dresses (meaning they’re in great condition). Plus, we’ll also provide a hanger and dress bag with every purchase made. Perfect if you need to swiftly take your chosen sample wedding dress off to a seamstress of your choice - which we’d recommend all brides do to attain that perfect fit! With the size of the sample dress, keep in mind that you’ll be able to go up a few sizes (and have the dress taken in), and, alternatively, if the dress is too small, in some cases, panels can be added to expand the dress, too. With that in mind, make sure you dedicate some funds towards alteration costs.
No.4 Be prepared for a slightly different bridal experience
When it comes to the experience of a sample sale at Bridal Indulgence, get ready for a truly fun appointment! Our sample sale works differently from our usual appointments at our Hampshire bridal boutique. Be prepared for multiple brides to be in the studio space at the same time as you, meaning others will be able to see you trying on dresses - but it’s great fun as there’s such a buzz! You’ll be able to select three wedding dresses to try on before rejoining the queue, and a stylist will be on hand to assist you in and out of the gowns and offer advice!
Although this is very different from how we usually operate at Bridal Indulgence, the sample sale is still a wonderful experience (especially if you find ‘the one’ with a much reduced price tag)! Don’t forget that payment is required in full, and you won’t have to wait for your gown - you’ll be able to take it away with you on the day (unless you decide to use our professional cleaning service). And, if alterations are required, you’re very welcome to come back to have these implemented by our recommended seamstress.
